The Great War
The Great War, also referred to and most know as WWI, had many origins rather than just one main reason the war first occurred. During this period, European countries began forming alliances with other neighboring countries. This would give a sense of protection as well as provide aid and security when a country most needed it. Presently, at this time, Austria and Serbia were having a minor fight. Due to the allies they formed, many people and countries were essentially dragged into the war. They had an agreement and knew that they had promised to provide aid when it was most needed. This caused many countries to get involved in a minor war, that soon erupted into a much bigger war, dragging everyone in on all the action. This caused many countries to become rivals, which many still continue to be to this day, due to the sides that they picked.

I think it is interesting how you pointed out that other countries were dragged into WW1. Events could have turned much differenlty if such strong alliances hadn't been formed previously to the conflict. I think the major tension started when Russia and Germany clashed.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Olivia. I think your bringing in of the "foreign entanglements" echoes what Washington said. Bit of a stretch, I know, but just look at what all those alliances led to...
